Completely Wireless Epee
There are a number of wireless scoring systems on the market. While no design is perfect due to the necessary compromises made during development, many systems are held back by high costs that make them inaccessible to individuals and clubs.
My goal was to create an affordable wireless epee fencing solution without sacrificing the features you'd expect from a modern electronic scoring system.
After extensive design and development work, the Plugin represents this achievement. As its name indicates, the device plugs directly into the epee socket, eliminating the need for body wires and spools
Plugin
The Plugin delivers excellent guard and piste hit detection performance while remaining resistant to high levels of sweat. The two Plugins communicate with each other to determine which hit to award. Results display simultaneously on both Plugins through internal LEDs and a buzzer, removing the need for a separate central display unit.
The Plugins comply with FIE timing requirements for epee.
Setup is wonderfully simple. Turn on the Plugins, insert them directly into the epees, touch guards and begin fencing. When finished, remove the Plugins and they automatically power down.
The Plugins feature a rechargeable Li-Ion battery lasting over 10 hours or 2,500 hits. The cases include a 3D printed core with two outer plates CNC machined from solid Polycarbonate, making them durable enough to withstand multiple direct impacts.
Operating multiple Plugin sets simultaneously poses no practical limitations. To date, 12 sets have performed flawlessly together.

Multiple Plugin pairs can be linked for team fencing, where all team members fence all opposing team members simultaneously rather than sequentially. This creates an engaging new fencing experience enjoyed by fencers of all ages. With metal epees, the fencing area requires safety restrictions. With plastic epees, the area can be as expansive as desired.
Like all wireless systems, the Plugin has certain limitations. Currently, it's available only for epee. Additionally, hits to uninsulated mask areas with chipped paint may not register as they're detected as guard hits. This challenge couldn't be resolved without compromising guard and piste hit performance, and since that performance takes priority for epee, this remains as is.
Repeater Relay
The Repeater Relay duplicates the results shown on the Plugins. It can either be handheld by the referee/coach, or connected to your existing wired scoring box.
Sets
The Plugins and Repeater Relay are available in sets, which include a storage case. There is a socket on the side of the case to check for wear and tear on the pins. Each set includes three spare Plugin pins.

This set comprises two Plugins and a storage case. The Repeater Relay can be purchased at a later date and added to the set.
